Pronunciation Power 1 is a user friendly, interactive CD-ROM designed for
beginning English learners of all ages. It is an excellent tool for students to learn the
correct pronunciation of 52 sounds as they are used in the English language. It has an
easy, effective design with numerous exercises for practice using visual and auditory
feedback. The picture dictionary teaches the meaning of unknown words and will promote
improvement in reading and spelling levels. All instructions and lessons are available in
12 different languages and the student will be able to choose which language he/she
prefers to use. Teachers will be able to choose "English only".
For each of the 52 sounds there are five main components:
1. Lessons - an animated, graphic side view of how the sound is made and a front view
video of required lip movement.
2. Speech analysis - new innovative wave form technology that allows the student to
compare his/her sound formation to that of the instructor's.
3. Picture Dictionary - students will access this dictionary from the main menu or from
the Exercise section where all words in Sample and Comparative words and in the Sentence
exercises are easily linked to the dictionary. This component will aid in improving
reading comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling ability. The dictionary will
have features such as :
a. Language of choice - instructions and root word translations in 12 different
languages.
b. 1700 pictures and graphics.
c. Listening and recording for all roots words, verb conjugations and noun + plurals.
d. Extensive searches based on: 39 themes, 52 sounds ( in all positions),
alphabet, letter combinations in all positions, verbs and nouns.
4. Exercises - the student will be able to practice his/her pronunciation and/or
reading through the interactive and exciting exercises including:
- sample words and comparative words
- phrases - includes intonation, linking, stress and rhythm
- two levels of sentences exercises
- two kinds of listening discrimination exercises - for sound recognition in words and
word recognition in sentences.
5. Interactive games - 4 different games providing practice in listening, speaking and
reading.
The CD contains hundreds of hours of instruction, a 3300+ word picture dictionary (plus
conjugations and plurals) and unlimited hours of interactive use. It will allow the
student to learn at his/her own pace.
